In order to be eligible for a BA degree in American Culture and Literature, every AKE student must take a pre-determined number of courses. Compulsory or required courses (sometimes referred to as "Core Courses") are those courses that every student must complete with a passing grade in order to graduate. See the curriculum below for a list of our core courses.
Elective courses are supplemental courses offered by the department which serve to enhance student interests and their learning experiences. Students are free to choose among these courses provided that they observe certain rules and regulations such as class limits (quotas), equivalencies, and their academic status. In principle, a first year student can choose among the elective courses offered for first and second year students. Second year students can choose among the first, second and third year elective courses. A third year student can choose among the second, third and fourth year electives, and a fourth year student can choose among third and fourth year elective courses. All course selections are subject to approval by student advisors.
