Course Objectives: Students are introduced to the mythological stories and legends that form the first examples of literature. Apart from its other functions (such as understanding the cosmos, explaining natural phenomena), mythology is evaluated as the literature of the ancient world. Students are expected to establish the relationship between mythology and literature through the art of storytelling. Implied meanings and thematic repetitions are taught so that students can make use of these techniques in their future studies. 

Course Content: This course surveys definitions of terms like myth, mythology, legend, and tale;  the characteristics of mythology; and the important stories and legends of classical Greek mythology.  The instructor will cover historically/ geographically-related facts, as well as matriarchal/patriarchal creation myths, and the heroic legends.
